Organ Donation

It's too late for a mailed card to arrive on time, and the selection at Hallmark is probably pretty bad by now...but there's still time to call your mother or someone like a mother to you. Tell her how much she means to you. If you're not getting along with your mother, then be a good example to a child. Or somebody that's acting like a child. Be kind, be gentle, provide boundaries, give unconditional love, stand up for the right thing, and sit down to laugh whenever possible.

As for me, I'm the kind of daughter that sent the following card to my mother...

...and the note on the inside asked that she take good care of her organs before asking for mine.

Cute card.

On a serious note, people who are organ donors should make sure their families are aware- harvesting must take place within 18 hours of death. When my mom died last year, it was midnight before the tissue bank people reached me via phone. Going through the permissions via phone was terrifically painful (and loong), but they were gentle and wonderful, and I know my mother wanted to donate.

So, prepare your peeps cuz in the midst of their grief, they have to listen to every single thing that might happen to your body- and give or deny permission for each one. Yukky, but necessary.

You'll be pleased to know that my family knows that I'm an organ donor, but my real desire is to donate my body to science.
