Effective May 14, 2007, the Postal Service is issuing the Forever Stamp, intended to reduce the inconvenience that consumers experience with having to acquire new-rate postage or 'make-up' stamps (1-cent and 2-cent stamps) prior to implementation of new prices. The Forever Stamp will initially be sold at the new First-Class Mail single-piece 1-ounce letter rate - 41 cents. The value of the Forever Stamp will always be the First-Class Mail single-piece 1-ounce letter rate that is in effect on the day of use (mailing), unaffected by any subsequent changes in the future.
